Justices' Terms Change in 2011

The 41st TISL General Assembly in November 2010 adopted a constitutional amendment changing the terms of members of the Court.

Justices serve one-year terms, which previously began on July 1. The General Assembly decided that it would be better for the terms to coincide with the Executive Council's terms, which begin when the General Assembly adjourns in November.

To implement the transition, a short term was created from July 1, 2011, until the General Assembly adjourns on Nov. 20, 2011. Full one-year terms will begin on Nov. 20, 2011.

The spring 2011 application is for both the short term and the full term. It is the same application form and process. The application form has a place for applicants to indicate whether they are seeking the short term, the full term or both.
